The parent company Fortuna was established in the Czech Republic already in May 1990 and thus laid foundations to odds betting in the whole Central Europe. The company managed to build a network of branch offices in biggest Czech cities still before to the year's end and continued to expand its operation and offer its services in the following years.
In 2005 Fortuna was acquired by the Czech-and-Slovak private equity group Penta Investments known for that it restructures and develops the acquired companies (www.pentainvestments.com). It joined the Czech Fortuna with the Slovak betting agency Terno and Polish betting agency Profesjonal in the same year. At the end of 2007 was joined Croatin betting agency Favorit, which resulted in creation of Fortuna Group, the biggest Central-European operator of odds betting. Penta acquired 100% stake in Fortuna, 100% stake in Terno, holds 33% stake in Professional (while controlling management of the company) a and acquired 80% stake in Favorit (with option to remaining 20% value).
The new owner immediately started to modernize the overall operation; it began with a general reconstruction of branch offices, brought a new visual style and established the new software accelerating and upgrading receipt of bets, as well as the new products. Slovak Terno was renamed to Fortuna in 2006 and renaming of Polish Profesjonal started 1.1. 2008. Favorit became Fortuna Sportska Kladionica d.o.o in May 2008.
